Sir Christopher Vajda, KC
Monckton ChambersSir Christopher Vajda, KC is a distinguished barrister, arbitrator, and former judge, recognised for his extensive contributions to European and international law. He served as the UK Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) from 2012 until 2020, during which time he presided over a broad range of complex cases spanning sectors such as competition, banking, energy, aviation, investor-state, pharmaceuticals, sanctions, state aid, and tax. Renowned for his clarity of analysis and keen attention to detail, he was praised by the President of the Court for his incisive approach to difficult legal issues and his valued service to the Court.
Before joining the bench, Sir Christopher had a wide-ranging practice at the English Bar, appearing frequently before the UK Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and the CJEU. He acted for the UK Government, major public bodies, regulators, and private sector clients across numerous industries. Since returning to practice, he has become a leading arbitrator, sitting in ICC, LCIA, and sports arbitrations, and serving on prominent international panels.
He was knighted in the New Year’s Honours List 2026.
