Chair Emeritus

As naming Dr. Dirk-Reiner Martens as our Chair Emeritus, Cambridge Executive Connections recognizes the contributions he made to the on-going success of the International Forum on Sports Law.  As part of this recognition, the Forum created the annual Dr. Dirk-Reiner Martens Memorial Session. This session is a forward-thinking discussion focused on recent Jurisprudence cases and recognizes his legacy of advancing the growth and accountability of those practicing in the area of sports law.

Before his passing in 2019, Reiner was one of the most influential and well-respected lawyers in the sports movement, and to us, he was the Founding Co-Chair of the International Forum on Sports Law. He was a pleasure to work with and we continue to miss his guidance, his joie de vivre, wit and wisdom. In addition to his role as Forum Co-Chair, Reiner was a forerunner in the sports world especially with the Olympic Movement. His Munich-based firm, Martens Rechtsanwälte, worked with numerous Olympic and non-Olympic Sports Federations and he was a well-respected arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration of Sport and played a significant role in the creation of the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT).
